At Hobart and William Smith, you have options for tasty, nutritious meals. Grab a juicy cheeseburger at The Cellar Pub, a fresh, organically grown salad at Saga or a stuffed burrito at The Café. Whatever you're craving, you're likely to find it at one of our dining options located across campus. 

Dining OptionsFood Galore

Hobart and William Smith feature four eateries with multiple cuisines to suit your needs.


Officially the Great Dining Hall of Saga, Saga is the main dining hall at HWS located inside the Scandling Center. You can find a variety of options at the following stations that make up Saga:

  • Basil-Vegetarian and vegan dishes 
  • Daily Dish-Classic entrees
  • Fired Up-Plain and specialty pizzas
  • Ignite-Burgers, hot dogs and more
  • My Kitchen-Rotating breakfast, lunch and dinner classics 
  • Stacks-Customizable sandwiches
  • Sakura-Classic Asian dishes 

Additional salads, sides and desserts are also available to enjoy. Stations at Saga are buffet style and all-you-can-eat. In a rush? Saga offers meals to-go as well, meaning you won't go hungry with a busy schedule. Meals are based on swipes related to meal plan.

the café

Adjacent to Saga is The Café. The Café is made up of three main stations:

  • Tres Habanero-Burritos, quesadillas and more Mexican favorites
  • Subconnection-Create your own sub or order a signature classic 
  • The Grill-Breakfast sandwiches, burgers and grilled sandwiches 

The Cafe also offers ice cream, snacks and to-go meals for whenever you are hungry. Meals at The Café are paid through Snack Money or you can pay via cash or a credit card. 

the cellar pub

Tucked in the basement of Coxe Hall is The Cellar Pub. A cozy gathering for lunch and dinner, the pub offers classics including chicken wings, fries, pizza and calzones. And for those late nights, the Pub has you covered; it's open until midnight Thursday through Saturday. Meals are paid through Snack Money or you can pay via cash or a credit card.

au bon pain

Looking for a simple coffee and a sandwich? Au Bon Pain has got you covered. Located in the atrium of the William Hunting Smith Library, Au Bon Pain offers a variety of hot and cold drinks, pastries, hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast foods and soups. Meals are paid through Snack Money, or you can pay via cash or a credit card. 

Grab and Go

Grab and Go is simple; students can pick up a Saga meal to-go comprised of an entrée, a side, a dessert and a beverage. Grab and Go offers a diverse selection of entrees, from yogurt parfait breakfast items to reheatable baked ziti and macaroni & cheese, sides ranging from fresh whole fruit to hot homemade soup, and your choice of beverage and cookie dessert. Grab and Go hours are Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.




We take your dietary needs seriously at Hobart and William Smith. Our culinary staff are flexible to meet your needs. From gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options to food allergies, you can be sure your health is in good hands. We offer many options to meet your needs including:

My Zone

Our campus food "pantry" where items needed by students with Celiac disease or nut allergies are stored and prepared with precautions against cross-contact. This area is free of tree nut, peanut and gluten-containing ingredients and products.

Simple servings

Simple Servings is our allergen-safe dining option for students with food allergies or gluten intolerance. This station offers food free from peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, eggs and gluten-containing ingredients. Simple Servings staff members are carefully trained to avoid cross-contact with food allergens.


All Mindful offerings meet stringent nutritional criteria based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Each Mindful item is limited in calories, has fewer than 30% of calories from fat, fewer than 10% of calories from saturated fat, and is restricted in sodium and cholesterol.

Do you like to eat all your meals at the dining hall? Or do you prefer to make your own and only eat occasionally at one of the campus dining options? Either way, there are meal plans to suit your preferences. Note: All students are required to have a meal plan while attending HWS. Our meal plans include:

finger lakes

Unlimited access to SAGA, $325 Snack Money, 8 guest passes, 4 Café meal equivalency swipes per week*, parents eat free with students (excluding campus special events), and a free birthday cake.


15 Saga meals per week, 3 Café meal equivalency swipes per week* and $200 Snack Money.


85 Saga meals per semester, 17 Café meal equivalency swipes per semester* and $475 Snack Money.


35 Saga meals per semester, 7 Café meal equivalency swipes per semester* and $250 Snack Money. 

first-year students

All first-year students are required to have the Finger Lakes meal plan unless the student has an approved accommodation through the Center of Teaching and Learning with a documented reduction or exemption.

Each plan, based on allowance, may substitute entrees with Café meal equivalency swipes. Meal equivalency swipes can be used for purchases - indicated with the meal equivalency swipe logo - at The Grill, Subconnection and Tres Habanero. Available only in The Café.
